Common Major Collision Repair Myths

If you’re ever in need of major collision repair, you’re probably disheartened by everything you’ve heard about the process. There are quite a few myths perpetuated about the collision repair industry, but the process isn’t what the negative perspectives make it out to be. Today in the Cox Collision blog, we’ll talk about some of these big myths and debunk them while we’re at it.

Your Dealer Has to Fix Your Car to Make It Like New

Many people are under the impression that a certified dealership is the only place where you can get quality repairs done to make your car like new again. That’s because people are convinced that original parts, or original equipment manufacturer parts, are only available to the dealers. This isn’t true at all. Many repair shops have access to OEM parts and aftermarket parts, meaning you can choose which option is best for you. While it’s true the dealers most likely do high-quality work, other repair shops are more than capable of equalling their quality.

Your Insurance Gets to Choose Your Car Repair Shop

This is another common misconception that gets spread around. You’re actually free to choose whichever repair shop you see fit. While it’s true that an insurance company might have a list of recommended shops, it doesn’t mean you can’t go with someone who didn’t make the list. You have the right to pick where your car is repaired.

Also, your insurance has no right to withhold your payment based on what repair shop you choose. According to an insurance agreement, they’re required to pay whatever is covered in your plan.

All of My Repairs Will be Covered by Insurance

This one might not be a myth, depending on your insurance company. It all depends on your policy. If you’re unsure about how much of your repair will be covered, it’s always a good idea to contact your insurance rep and ask them. They’ll be able to explain your policy in more detail.
